The Benefits of High-Definition Video Surveillance

A Day In The Life

Normally I don’t watch the news because I find it too depressing. However, this past January, I was zipping through the channels when a teaser came on about an upcoming story involving a murder that occurred at an apartment community near Fort Worth. Having been in the multi-family industry for many years and being familiar with many of the properties in the area, I decided to sit through the commercials and hear the report.

A few moments later, I watched in horror as the newscaster told the disturbing story of a young wife and mother of three who’d been fatally stabbed in the neck during an attack by two fourteen-year-old boys.

The victim, Ryan Munsie Graham, was an Uber Eats driver making a delivery at an apartment community in Haltom City.  According to police, the juveniles had not targeted Ms. Graham specifically, but had set out that night with the intention of robbing someone. It was later reported that the only thing stolen from Ms. Graham was her cell phone, which was recovered in a nearby dumpster where the suspects lived.

As the story unfolded, the newscaster said that they’d caught up with “someone” from the surveillance company for the property next door. Apparently, the neighboring community had cameras pointed at the scene which offered police high-definition video clearly identifying suspects in the crime.

It turned out that the ‘someone’ they’d spoken with is a friend and client of mine named Offie Wiseman.

Offie, who owns a video surveillance and access control company called 3rd Eye Surveillance, was quoted as saying “All of the cameras were fortunately up and recording. We just so happened to have the cameras pointed exactly where it needed to be.”

A few days later, I called Offie to learn more about the specifics of the surveillance equipment that had captured this important footage.

Offie shared with me that remarkably, his company had installed the high-definition cameras on the neighboring community just two days before the attack. He also told me there were actually two cameras that proved the suspects’ involvement.

I told Offie I felt so grateful that the management company had invested in surveillance cameras. “This was such a horrible tragedy for so many people,” I said. “Think of all the lives the actions of these teenagers changed that night.”

Offie agreed. “It was a real tragedy but as you can imagine, in my line of work, I’ve seen some pretty bad things.”

“I’m sure you have,” I said. “But it must be gratifying to know that what you do for your clients can make a real difference.”

“It is. But of course, it’s always better when our cameras help stop crime before it happens,” Offie replied humbly.

I thought for a moment then said, “You know, someone once told me that the primary motivation for most people to install a security system is after they’ve been a victim of crime.”

“Actually, that’s true,” Offie told me. “At my company, we’ve found that 95% of our clients have recently experienced some type of security issue. In fact, the community where this incident occurred is now scheduled to have us install cameras of their own.”

After we ended our call, I looked at 3rd Eye’s ad in The Vendor Guide. At the top of the page it states, ‘Protecting People, Property & Profits”.

I love the way Offie and his team place an emphasis on putting people first.

Life is so precious, I thought. At the end of the day, it’s people that matter.

I’m incredibly thankful for Offie and all those dedicated to serving and protecting others. These professionals provide us with tools that will tell the tales of the innocent—including those whose voices have been taken from them far too soon.

I Get What You’re Saying

You never know who’s going to walk through the front door when you work in a leasing office. In this case, a couple looking for a new place to call home, had a slight difference of opinion on which floor plan they’d need for their growing family. I love how the leasing director helped take some of the tension out of what could have otherwise been a stressful situation.
